Friday Evening ~ Orientation/Power Yoga Class ~ This class is part lecture, part asana practice. Bryan starts by explaining the objective of Power Yoga, as well as the principles of the practice. We encourage students to attend this class because it is the foundation for the weekend series. Saturday Morning ~ Power Yoga Class ~ Bryan will offer a well rounded flowing asana practice integrating mental practices that enhance everyday living. Saturday Afternoon ~ Long, Slow and Deep ~ A series of deep stretches that open the body, while challenging the mind. Created as a complement to the flowing class. Sunday, Morning ~ Power Yoga Class ~ Bryan will offer a challenging power yoga class while summarizing much of the weekend discussions about asana, philosophy and more as he "wraps up" the weekend workshop series. Power Yoga With Bryan Kest, Founder of Power Yoga Now 47, Bryan Kest has been practicing yoga for more than 30 years. He initially studied in Hawaii with David Williams, the first person to bring Ashtanga yoga to America. He then studied in India with K. Pattabhi Jois, the main proponent of Ashtanga yoga. Kest has been teaching yoga for 26 years. “My primary objective,” says Kest, “besides turning more and more people on to a healthier, more peaceful lifestyle that continually challenges them to grow, is to teach a system of exercise that fully integrates the body, mind, and spirit. The new trend towards yoga is not surprising, given that the body is limited and the mind is limitless. The combination of body and mind creates an incredibly broad range of fulfillment, including top physical condition and a calm, peaceful, clear mind. Bryan's Power Yoga Master Class will be a strong, well rounded, yet simple physical practice that leaves every nook and cranny in our bodies vibrating with vitality while challenging our minds in the sense of strengthening the qualities of mind that are most useful, positive and powerful, while eradicating the qualities of our mind that are harmful and stress inducing. It will strengthen qualities such as calmness, patience, focus, gentleness, gratitude, humility and acceptance, while weakening qualities such as judgment, competitiveness, distraction, reaction, and criticism. If you feed qualities of mind, they will grow big and strong, and if you don’t feed them, they will weaken and die. Now since our physical practice is such a fertile environment for most all of these qualities to arise, our physical practice becomes an opportunity to strengthen the qualities we want to be strong and to weaken and eradicate the qualities we find harmful. If you want to know how Bryan does this, you will have to come and see because words cannot replicate the experience that is a culmination of almost 30 years of his own yoga practice called Power Yoga. This workshop is for ALL LEVELS. Please bring a yoga mat, water and any other items you need for yoga practice. Continuing Education Credits (CEC's): Bryan Kest will lead a weekend workshop exploring not only asana and meditation practice and techniques, but also the yoga philosophy of ashtanga and power yoga. Additionally, we'll study the complex anatomical benefits of many of the simplest poses in yoga. Finally, Bryan will share much of the teach methodology he has developed over his many years and hours of study within Ashtanga and Power Yoga. Bryan has taught well in excess of 30,000 hours, teaching over 16,000 classes. Bryan's extensive studies include hundreds of hours studying Ashtanga Yoga with David Williams and Brad Ramsey (6 years) in addition to a year studying yoga while living in India, including countless hours studying asana and philosophy directly under the tutalige of K. Pattabhi Jois, the then current lineage holder of Ashtanga Yoga.
