With Karen Charlton, E-RYT 200, Physical Therapist
Instructor with Yoga Club Teacher Training
Yoga for Kids: Through this weekend immersion you'll learn a fresh and creative approach to educating, exercising and empowering children of all ages and abilities through the practice of yoga. We'll explore creative styles of yoga for children of various age groups from toddlers to teens. We'll introduce you to create themes, games, and partner yoga techniques to keep children engaged and excited about their yoga practice. You'll also learn age related levels of ability, restrictions and proper adjustments.
Therapeutic Yoga for Kids: We'll also teach you how to integrate the principles and practice of yoga therapy into the assessment and care of the child, providing a more holistic, creative, and compassionate approach to the management of the pediatric population. We'll teach you the skills necessary to practice yoga therapy for children with hypotonia, hypertonia, musculoskeletal imbalance, chronic and/or progressive disorders, and sensory dysfunction. You'll learn to perform a unique and functional assessment to determine the needs of each child and to utilize breathing/pranyama, asanas/postures, sound therapy, and relaxation techniques to improve the child’s overall health, well-being and function. The course will include lab sessions and daily yoga practice to demonstrate and apply newly learned skills.
