Yoga for Cancer With Kristy Price, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, Certified Yoga Therapist Instructor Yoga Club Teacher Training When working in Integrative Oncology a yoga therapist must demonstrate knowledge of pathology regarding the subject matter as well as a deep understanding of yogic principles. Although yoga is not a cure for cancer, given the appropriate therapeutic prescription it can alleviate symptoms caused by disease and treatment and enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors who choose to participate. It is important that a yoga therapist understand contraindications regarding asana and can modify each individual accordingly, whether in a private or group environment. This module will provide you with a foundational knowledge base for pathology, assessment, professionalism, safe implementation, stress reduction, and coping mechanisms. Required Materials: Yoga Mat, 10′ Yoga Strap, 4” Yoga Block About Kristy: Kristy Price, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, Certified Yoga Therapist, is experienced in teaching a wide range of Hatha Yoga styles to diverse populations. She is nationally registered with the Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 200 and the RYT 500 levels. Kristy completed her 200 hr Alignment Yoga training in Asheville, NC at Lighten Up Yoga, an Iyengar Yoga studio; shortly after, Kristy completed her 500 hr training with Holistic Yoga Therapy Institute in Charlotte, NC where she also earned her Therapeutic Yoga certification. She holds membership to the International Association of Yoga Therapists and has dedicated her career to work within the Integrative Oncology department of the medical system. Kristy offers classes and education in Mindfulness, Meditation, Alignment / Restorative / Gentle Hatha Yoga and Pranayama. After learning her family history and losing her uncle to cancer, Kristy felt a strong desire to give back to the cancer community. She now shares the gifts that she has been given and feels immensely dedicated to her work in the therapeutic field. She began this chapter, teaching Yoga Therapeutics at Presbyterian Cancer Rehabilitation and Wellness, and currently provides her services in the Integrative Oncology Survivorship and Wellness Department at Levine Cancer Institute, CHS.
